The Pinardi Shed Project
The project was an initiative undertaken by the Faculty Members and a group of students from Don Bosco Technical College BSIT Program. This project was constructed as a tribute to our founder Saint John Bosco for his works in the first Oratory. The project simulates the life and environment of the Oratory and bring it to todays era using the Internet as the medium. How did the project started? It all began when Mr. Rodelio P. Barcenas initiated a group of student and faculty members to start a FORUM service which can effectively improve communication between students and the Department, February 2006. The Team PINARDI-SHED was composed of; Faculty Members; Mr. Rodelio P. Barcenas (Project Director) Mr. Marco Paolo Montesines (Software Guru / Architect) Mr. Benjamin Caruncho (Product Testing) Mr. Cliburn Solano (Product Testing) Student Assistants; Mr. Miguel Araquel (Software Dev. Team) Mr. Emannuel Nana (Software Dev. Team) Mr. Henard King Rodriguez (Software Dev. Team) The community of students rapidly accepted the idea of using the FORUM as a medium of communication for talking with collegues and faculty members. Freedom of self expression was challenged, and should be guided with respect for oneself and the other. Every member took it as a new way of life, to hang-around, have fun, communicating with peers. Inside the FORUM, no one was higher than the other, every one is our brother, a family member. The Initial Problem Encountered. Since there was a tremendous volume of information posted in the FORUM, a need for rules and operating guidelines must be set. FORUM sites have a lot of rules which is often times hard to formulate. Rules will take a big time to prepare and ratify as acceptable to the community. The PINARDI-SHED. During the early times of St. John Bosco's mission, he setup his Oratory in the Streets known as the "Wandering Oratory". Children gathered besides him every day as his oratorians. They tried looking for a place where they can hide from authorities to conduct cathecism amongst them. But since the authorities would always find them, St. John Bosco's group was always been dispersed. Mr. Pinardi offered his shed to St. John Bosco so that he and the street children can have a place to grow and learn. Don Bosco's saving of souls started there. Don Bosco, with the help of the oratorians, rebuilt, rehabilitate the shed into an oratory. This was St. John Bosco's First Oratory. Inside the Oratory, you will find street children with varying type of characters and attitude. Don Bosco tamed the rascals, just like his dream at nine. There where similarities between the FORUM and PINARDI SHED: FORUM was composed children (Students) PINARDI was composed children (Oratorians) FORUM contains Students with different characters PINARDI contains Oratorians with different characters FORUM was a closed area (Only Students and Educators) PINARDI was a closed area (Only Oratorians and Salesians) The only difference was; FORUM house rules (Too Tedious to create) PINARDI house rules (Don Bosco's simple but powerful rules) Why was the FORUM transformed into PINARDI SHED? Mr. Barcenas was convinced that the forum was supposed to have rules which is simple to learn and understand. Upon arriving to school, he talked with a majority of students of Don Bosco Technical College and most of them did not know anything about the Pinardi Shed. It was sad to know that students would be graduating in Don Bosco, and doesn't know deeply the life and works of our Founder. It was then made final that the FORUM must be transformed to PINARDI SHED, in memory of St. John Bosco. This would help the community of students to also understand that they too are Oratorians of St. John Bosco. The Rules now inside the PINARDI SHED is simple, "Jump, Run, Make Noise but do not Sin", "Bosconians willing to serve, never to hurt" are just a few of them. Such rules should be easy to digest and understand. The PINARDI SHED (Formerly FORUM) should be able to help us grow, the way St. John Bosco wanted it to be. The PINARDI SHED project is a tribute to our beloved Father and Founder St. John Bosco. Future Directions; The PINARDI Shed Project helps us realize that even in todays modern world, where keeping us inside an Oratory would be impossible to apply, we can still be united as one community of Oratorians, a family of St. John Bosco. To other schools, departments, of Don Bosco. Our group is willing to contribute our software application, a very good tool to exprerience the Oratory. Initial Directions 1. Setting up of Pinardi Salesianity Section 2. Introduction to other Deparments (School wide). 3. Creation of Downloadable Version 4. Introducing and Deploying more Pinardi Sheds (Inter-School i.e. Tarlac, Cebu... Tondo, etc) 5. Building inter-school connectivity. 736 General Kalentong Street, Mandaluyong City Philippines +63(2) 531-8081 local 1480 |
